The arid climate in the basin, surrounded my mountains, where Las Vegas is located makes the city an ideal cindidate for solar hot water and solar electric installations. Las Vegas began as a place for pioneers to to stop on their way along the trails to the west. By the time the early 1900's rolled around, the city had created a sensation of tourism and gaming.

In recent years, there has been a surge of new green building acitivities in LAs Vegas. For instance, MGM's 76-acre CityCenter project is under construction on the Strip. This project will showcase user-friendly, high tech designs which will utilize resources efficiently, so it is expected to attain at the least the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver certification.
